Emory University Data Intelligence Continuing Education
ECE also offers the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), a lifelong program for adults who enjoy learning for fun and wish to continue their education. Courses include learning new languages, studying photography, and getting creative with poetry. ECE also offers corporate training with customized programs, targeted learning solutions, and flexible schedules.
Emory Continuing Education (ECE) is the non-credit division of Emory University, launched and located in Atlanta, GA. Non-credit education simply means that courses are meant for personal enrichment and professional development rather than actual college credits. Some courses may offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which are nationally-recognized units used to document student efforts to increase their knowledge and/or skills.
The ECE mission is to enhance the lives and careers of its students through high-quality education. Thousands of students enroll each year to expand their knowledge in a wide variety of courses across multiple disciplines. A few potential areas of study include communication, writing, language, and financial planning as well as an array of tech subjects like coding and graphic design.
School Locations
While ECE does have an in-person campus through Emory University in Atlanta, courses are currently being held remotely. Until further notice, these online courses will be hosted virtually on Zoom.
Subjects Taught at Emory Continuing Education
There are many possible areas of study available through ECE. Which course(s) you choose will depend on your personal goals. For example, if you wish to obtain or advance a tech career, you might choose one of their courses in data analytics, digital marketing, or graphic design. There are also technology bootcamps (offered through FullStack Academy) in coding and cybersecurity.
To compare the ECE curriculum with other schools in your area, you can search your subject of choice in Noble Desktop's Classes Near Me tool. Whether you are looking for coding bootcamps or a single course in graphic design or digital marketing, you can use the tool to see how your local options stack up against ECE.
What Classes Are Available?
Depending on what you are looking to learn, there are many courses available in ECE's catalog. Within their digital skills program, for example, you can take certificate-level courses in Data Analytics with Tableau, Digital Marketing, Salesforce, and Asana Project Management. If you are interested in data analytics but prefer standalone courses over a certificate, there are several options like Power BI and SQL among other analytical tools.
If you want to get a job in graphic design or simply expand your knowledge in the area, ECE offers a Graphic Design Certificate as well as multiple shorter courses in Adobe programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro. Other tech programs are available through ECE's Technology Bootcamps, which are held in partnership with FullStack Academy and include immersive courses in coding, cybersecurity, and DevOps.
For those not looking to learn about tech or related fields, there are plenty of alternatives in ECE's catalog. Other topics include communication skills, creative writing, event planning, finance, management, healthcare, professional skills, and human resources.
Class Formats
The only format available for individual ECE courses at this time is online courses taught on Zoom. For those concerned about the safety and privacy of taking courses online, ECE has implemented several protocols to provide a secure learning environment. Only authenticated Zoom users may join classes, passwords are required for all sessions, and each person joining will be verified on the class roster. Beyond that, the format of each class will vary depending on the subject and length of the course.
On the group level, ECE also offers corporate training in areas like process improvement, technology, communication, and project management. These programs can be customized to suit any corporation's unique set of needs—simply fill out ECE's contact form to learn more.
Admissions Process
The admissions process at ECE varies based on which course(s) you are interested in taking. For some, it is as simple as filling out an online registration form. For others, you may need to request information or complete a more involved process. The coding bootcamp, for example, has an application process that includes a form as well as a 30-minute assessment to determine your logical reasoning abilities. Every course is different, so be sure to look into the application process of each possibility before making your decision.
Pricing & Payment Options
Emory Continued Education's pricing varies based on each course's subject and duration. The technology bootcamps, for example, each cost $10,490. Scholarship and discount opportunities for these classes include 10% for Emory employees and CDC workers, $1,000 for military personnel, and a $250 early enrollment discount for those who register far enough in advance.
Not all of ECE's courses are in the $10,000 range; other certificates in subjects like graphic design, digital marketing, and data analytics run closer to $3,500, while shorter courses tend to run under or around $1,000.
Some of ECE's discounts apply only to the longer certificates and bootcamps, but the 10% discount for Emory affiliates is available for most classes. There is also the option to open a Continuing Education Line of Credit from Emory Alliance Credit Union, which is more flexible as it can be used for tuition from $1,000 to $15,000.
Career Support Services
Like the application process, the level of career support depends heavily on the topic and course you pursue. A quick course on Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, for example, would not include career support as it is meant to expand knowledge in a single program. The coding bootcamp, on the other hand, has a dedicated Career Success Team that will provide workshops, office hours, and interview support. The team will also actively help in your job search by sending any relevant openings your way as well as keeping up with current recruiting trends to aid your preparation.
