Does Flex 3 Inch Polisher Use Other Backing Plates

Best option for a 3" DA Polisher?

I have a HF DA now, with a 6" backplate. What's the best 3" DA polisher option? Is it just get a 3" backplate and pads for the HF?

Or would you get something like the Griot's 3" random orbital polisher?

Any ideas? I want to be able to do small contours or things like by door pillars (?) and the front of the car.

Rupes Mini is what I would get. If you have 3 big bills to spend. It is easily worth the extra cash over the Griots.

Did not know that existed! Any particular reason?

I noticed Rupes is 400 W vs Griots 240 W. So does that mean it will take less time or cut harder? I'm not sure how the motor power translates to actual usage.

Is the Griots 3" not highly recommended?

No love for the Flex PE-8? Great 1-3" rotary as well.

I personally use the Rupes LHR 75 Mini for my 3''. It has way more power than the Griot's.

The other option would be to get a Flex and change the backing plates to suit your needs.

What is a Flex? Can you explain a bit? Or is there any recommendations on a 3" backplate that I could attach?

For actual paint correction, the Griots 3 inch is limited on power. I would just add a 3 inch backing plate to your HF DA. For sanding headlights, the Griots 3 inch is perfect. Easier to control than the larger HF DA. The best one hands down for paint correction is the RUPES LHR 75E.

Thanks for the input! I will probably just use the 3" backplate on my HF. Any suggestions on backplates? Or are they all kinda created equally?

I use my GG6 with a 3 inch backing plate. But I would love the Rupes.

Anyone want to comment on the idea of getting the 3" backing plate from Meguiar's and putting it on the MT300 or any other similar DA? I was thinking of doing this instead of shelling out for another machine, partly to refinish headlights and partly for use on my motorcycle and other smaller areas that need polishing.

It works great, it's just not as easy to maneuver as using a 3 inch polisher. But if you're careful it works great. You can put any 5/16th DA backing plate on the MT300 or similar DA. As long as it accepts a 5/16th spindle (like the Porter Cable 7424xp, HF DA, Griots Garage 6 inch, MT300, Meguiars G110v2)

Others have already said it, but you could not tear my RUPES Mini away from me. I love that damn thing.

I will get a 3" backplate for my harbor freight now. But I definitely have my eye on that and will try to save a bit or get it on sale. Next big autodetailing purchase for me!
